Target Information
The PKC family of serine/threonine kinases, including PRKCD (PKC delta), is activated by intracellular signal transduction pathways. In humans, at least 12 PKC isoforms have been identified, differing in structure, distribution, localization, and substrate specificity.
Conventional PKC isoforms (α, βI, βII, γ) are Ca²⁺- and phospholipid-dependent. PKC family members phosphorylate diverse protein targets and are involved in various signaling pathways, acting as receptors for phorbol esters, a class of tumor promoters.
PKC delta is implicated in B cell signaling and regulation of growth, apoptosis, and differentiation in multiple cell types. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed.
