Product Specific Information

This antibody detects 70 kDa proteins corresponding to the molecular mass of SK2 on SDS-PAGE immunoblots of human recombinant SK2 and endogenous SK2 in human HeLa cells treated with calyculin A. This reactivity is not observed after lambda phosphatase treatment.


Target Information

SPHK2, along with SPHK1, catalyzes the phosphorylation of sphingosine producing the signaling molecule sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P).
S1P signals through G-protein coupled receptors and controls diverse cellular processes. Inhibitors of SPHKs are viewed as potential therapeutics for cancer treatment.
SPHK2 plays key roles in cell differentiation, calcium mobilization, and apoptosis.
S1P receptors (EDG family) couple to multiple G proteins (e.g., S1P1 to Gi; S1P2 and S1P3 to Gq, G13, Gi) and regulate cell motility, survival, migration, and interaction.
S1P also contributes to cardiogenesis, vascular maturation, oocyte survival, immune cell trafficking, neuronal and bone cell regulation.
S1P levels are controlled by Sphk1 and Sphk2 activity.
