Target Information

FITC (fluorescein isothiocyanate) is a fluorochrome dye that absorbs ultraviolet or blue light, causing molecules to become excited and emit visible yellow-green light. This emission ceases upon removal of the excitation light. Fluorochrome labeling enables rapid and accurate localization of antigen-antibody interactions when one reactant is part of a cell, tissue, or other biological structure.

FITC is a commonly used marker for antibodies in immunofluorescent techniques, as conjugation to proteins is straightforward and typically preserves biological activity. FITC is also widely used as a hapten to label different proteins. Anti-FITC antibodies can be applied for isolating FITC-labeled cells via magnetic microbeads-based sorting, as well as for reducing background signal.
