Target Information
MAPK3 (ERK1) is a serine/threonine kinase that acts as an important activator of p90, RSK, MSK, ELK1, and Stat3, and is involved in the MAPK pathway.
ERK1 is widely expressed and regulates meiosis, mitosis, and post-mitotic functions in differentiated cells.
Various stimuli—such as growth factors, cytokines, viral infection, G protein-coupled receptor ligands, and transforming agents—activate ERK1 and ERK2 pathways.
Functionally, ERK1 participates in a signaling cascade that controls cellular processes including proliferation, differentiation, and cell cycle progression in response to extracellular signals.
ERK1 is activated by upstream kinases and translocates to the nucleus to phosphorylate nuclear targets.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms of ERK1 have been described.
