Product Specific Information
Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein that forms part of the MHC Class I complex. It is associated with HLA Class I antigens and expressed on various cell types including lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes.
It is also found in free form in plasma. The amino acid sequence is homologous to immunoglobulin constant regions and has a predominantly beta-pleated sheet structure.
Beta-2-microglobulin is involved in antigen processing and presentation, TCR signaling, and CD8+ cell signaling.
Encoded by the B2M gene on chromosome 15, mutations can lead to hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia.
Levels of beta-2-microglobulin serve as markers for renal function and as prognostic indicators for HIV infection.
