SULT1A1 (sulfotransferase family, cytosolic, 1A, phenol-preferring, member 1), also known as STP or STP1, is a 295 amino acid cytoplasmic protein belonging to the sulfotransferase family.
It functions as a homodimer expressed in brain, liver, skin, and lung tissue. SULT1A1 catalyzes sulfate conjugation of catecholamines, phenolic drugs, and neurotransmitters, aiding in the elimination of various compounds. It may also be involved in activation of carcinogenic N-hydroxyarylamines, suggesting a potential role in carcinogenesis.
