Product Specific Information

PA1-011 detects phospho-alpha-B crystallin (Ser45) from bovine, human, mouse, and rat samples.
This antibody does not detect the unphosphorylated form of the protein.
It has been successfully used in Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence procedures.

  • By Western blot, detects an ~20 kDa protein representing recombinant bovine phospho-alpha-B crystallin (Ser45).
  • Immunofluorescence staining in U373 MG cells shows cytoplasmic localization.
  • Immunogen: synthetic phosphopeptide corresponding to residues L(44) S(p) P F Y L R P P S F(54) C of human alpha-B Crystallin.
  • Reconstitute in 100 µL PBS to create a stock of 1 mg/mL.

Target Information

Lens proteins consist almost entirely of crystallins (about 95%), which also appear in vertebrate skeletal muscle tissue.
Crystallins maintain the lens refractive index and include three major classes: alpha, beta, and gamma.

  • Alpha-crystallin: composed of alpha-A and alpha-B gene products; ~40% of total lens protein.
  • Beta-crystallins: at least 5 variants.
  • Gamma-crystallins: monomeric, with at least 5 identified in bovine and rat lens.

Alpha-crystallin acts as a molecular chaperone, preventing protein aggregation that may cause cataracts.
Phosphorylated alpha-crystallin responds to cellular stress and contributes to protein maintenance.
Alpha-B crystallin accumulation is associated with Alexander’s disease.
