Target Information
The Ku80 protein is the 80-kDa subunit of the Ku heterodimer, also known as ATP-dependent DNA helicase II or DNA repair protein XRCC5.
Ku acts as the DNA-binding component of DNA-dependent protein kinase and cooperates with the DNA ligase IV–XRCC4 complex in DNA double-strand break repair via non-homologous end joining and V(D)J recombination.
This gene complements the Chinese hamster xrs-6 mutant, which is defective in double-strand break repair and V(D)J recombination.
A rare microsatellite polymorphism in this gene is associated with cancer susceptibility and radiosensitivity.
