This antibody recognizes a functional epitope of the Fas molecule.

Target Information

FAS (Fas, CD95, APO-1) is a 46 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein functioning as a cell death receptor of the TNFR superfamily. It also exists in a soluble form (~26 kDa). Upon stimulation, FAS aggregates its intracellular FAS-associated death domains (FADD), forming the death-inducing signaling complex (DISC) and activating caspases. This cascade leads to apoptosis. FAS can also activate NF-κB, MAPK3/ERK1, and MAPK8/JNK pathways and plays a role in proliferation signaling in fibroblasts and T cells. Multiple alternatively spliced isoforms exist, some lacking the transmembrane domain and negatively regulating apoptosis. The Fas/Fas ligand system is implicated in diseases such as AIDS, hepatitis, and cancer, and contributes to antiviral immune responses.
