Product Specific Information
Store vial at 4°C prior to restoration. For extended storage, aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.
Anti-SUMO Antibody is an IgG fraction antibody purified from monospecific antiserum by a multi-step process including delipidation, salt fractionation, and ion-exchange chromatography followed by extensive dialysis against the specified buffer. Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-Rabbit Serum.
Target Information
SUMO1 is a ubiquitin-like protein that can be covalently attached to proteins as a monomer or lysine-linked polymer. Covalent attachment via an isopeptide bond to its substrates requires activation by the E1 complex SAE1-SAE2 and linkage to the E2 enzyme UBE2I, promoted by E3 ligases such as PIAS1-4, RANBP2, or CBX4. This post-translational modification plays a crucial role in cellular processes such as nuclear transport, DNA replication and repair, mitosis, and signal transduction. SUMO1 is involved in targeting RANGAP1 to the nuclear pore complex protein RANBP2. Polymeric SUMO1 chains can be polyubiquitinated, signaling for proteasomal degradation of modified proteins. SUMO1 may also regulate genes involved in palate development, and mutations in the gene can result in non-syndromic orofacial cleft 10.
