Target Information
MettL7B belongs to the methyltransferase superfamily and is a probable methyltransferase. Methyltransferases transfer methyl groups from a donor to an acceptor, often on nucleic bases in DNA or amino acids in proteins. DNA methylation plays a role in gene regulation without altering the DNA sequence and is essential for normal embryonic development in mammals. Loss of DNA methyltransferase activity can lead to lethal phenotypes in mice. Aberrant methylation is also associated with cancer development through silencing of tumor suppressor genes, promoting tumorigenesis and metastasis.
