Target Information

ADP-ribosylation factors (ARFs) are low molecular weight GTP-binding proteins of the RAS superfamily.
The 182-amino acid ARL3 protein shares 97% identity with rat ARL3 and 43% with human ARF1.
ARL3 possesses a glycine at position 2 (N-myristoylation site) and lacks cysteine residues near the C-terminus typical of other RAS family members.
Expression is highest in heart and lung, with lower levels in brain, liver, kidney, ovary, and testis.
Detected in human tumor cell lines but not in normal rodent cells.
Although ARL3 binds GTP, it lacks cholera toxin-dependent ADP-ribosylation activity and is classified as an ARF-like protein.
