Description:
Interleukin-10 (IL-10), also known as Cytokine Synthesis Inhibitory Factor (CSIF), is an 18.6 kDa protein composed of 160 amino acids. It shares over 80% sequence homology with the Epstein-Barr Virus protein BCRFI.
IL-10 exhibits multiple biological activities, including:
- Inhibition of macrophage-mediated cytokine synthesis
- Suppression of delayed-type hypersensitivity response
- Stimulation of Th2 cell response leading to increased antibody production

Greater than 95% by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analyses.
Reconstitution:
Quick spin followed by reconstitution in sterile distilled water to a concentration not less than 100 µg/mL.
This solution can be diluted into aqueous buffers and stored at 4°C for 1 week or -20°C for long-term storage.
For in vitro applications, IL-10 is biologically active at concentrations of 0.2–20.0 ng/mL.
Target Information
IL-10 encodes a cytokine primarily produced by monocytes and, to a lesser extent, lymphocytes. It plays a key role in immunoregulation and inflammation by:
- Down-regulating Th1 cytokines, MHC class II antigens, and costimulatory molecules on macrophages
- Enhancing B cell survival, proliferation, and antibody production
- Blocking NF-kappa B activity
- Regulating the JAK-STAT signaling pathway
Knockout studies in mice indicate IL-10 is an essential immunoregulator in the intestinal tract.
Mutations in IL10 are associated with increased susceptibility to HIV-1 infection and rheumatoid arthritis.
Diseases linked to IL10 include Graft-Versus-Host Disease and Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1.
