Product Specific Information
This peptide corresponds to a 14-amino acid sequence near the amino terminus of human CD59.
PEP-1556 can be used as a blocking peptide with polyclonal antibody PA5-34513.
For use as a blocking peptide in Western blot, incubate the peptide with an equal volume of antibody for 30 minutes at 37°C.
Target Information
CD59 (Protectin) is a small (18–20 kDa) GPI-anchored, ubiquitously expressed inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC). It is a key regulator that protects autologous cells from complement-mediated lysis. CD59 binds to the C5b-8 complex and prevents formation of the cytolytic pore in the plasma membrane.
Additionally, CD59 interacts with human CD2, contributing to T cell costimulation and lymphocyte signal transduction.
Mutations in CD59 cause CD59 deficiency, characterized by hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
