Target Information

The PDX1 protein is a transcriptional activator regulating genes such as insulin, somatostatin, glucokinase, islet amyloid polypeptide, and glucose transporter type 2.
It plays a critical role in pancreatic development and glucose-dependent insulin gene regulation.
Mutations in this gene can cause pancreatic agenesis, early-onset insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), and maturity-onset diabetes of the young type 4 (MODY4).
