Target Information
SIRT5 is a human member of a family of proteins called Sirtuins (Sir2-like proteins) that are present in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. All Sir2-like proteins have a sirtuin core domain containing conserved sequence motifs across species. These proteins can metabolize NAD and may act as mono-ADP-ribosyltransferases. Although the enzymatic function of sirtuins is not yet fully understood, studies suggest possible coupled activation mechanisms involving NAD metabolism and histone deacetylation.
