Target Information
Activin A receptor kinase (ACVR2A) is a type II member of the TGF-beta family of receptor serine/threonine kinases.
ACVR2A participates in activin and myostatin signaling pathways (aliases: ACVR2, ACTRII).
These receptors are transmembrane proteins composed of a ligand-binding extracellular domain with a cysteine-rich region, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic domain with serine/threonine kinase activity.
Type I receptors are essential for signaling, while type II receptors are required for ligand binding and for expression of type I receptors.
Upon ligand binding, type I and II receptors form a stable complex, leading to phosphorylation of type I receptors by type II receptors.
Type II receptors are considered constitutively active kinases.
