Target Information
Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells respond to thermal and chemical stress by inducing heat shock genes. In eukaryotes, transcriptional regulation involves heat shock transcription factors (HSF1 and HSF2).
HSF1 and HSF2 are upregulated by estrogen at both mRNA and protein levels. HSF1 typically exists as a monomer with repressed activity due to phosphorylation, but upon activation forms trimers with DNA binding activity and translocates to the nucleus.
HSF2 is associated with differentiation and development and also binds DNA as a trimer. Both factors are induced by proteasome inhibitors in the ubiquitin pathway.
