Target Information
Bromodeoxyuridine (5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine, BrdU) is a synthetic nucleoside and thymidine analogue. BrdU is commonly used to detect proliferating cells in living tissues, incorporating into newly synthesized DNA during the S phase of the cell cycle. Antibodies specific for BrdU can detect incorporated BrdU, indicating cells actively replicating DNA. Binding of the antibody requires DNA denaturation, typically by acid or heat exposure.
