Target Information
SPTAN1 (spectrin alpha chain, non-erythrocytic 1) is a cytoskeletal protein within the spectrin family. It stabilizes the plasma membrane and organizes intracellular organelles. Spectrins form alpha-beta dimers, which associate as tetramers in a head-to-head configuration.
SPTAN1 also plays roles in DNA repair and cell cycle regulation. Mutations cause early infantile epileptic encephalopathy-5. Alternate splicing generates multiple transcript variants.
