Target Information
STING is a 379-amino-acid signaling protein that acts as an important component of innate immune signaling. It activates NF-kappa-B and IRF3 transcription pathways to induce type I interferon (IFN-alpha and IFN-beta) expression, contributing to antiviral defense.
STING may also function as a translocon and participate in apoptotic signal transduction via association with MHC-II, facilitating detection of intracellular viral RNA and B-form DNA.
It mediates death signaling through activation of the ERK pathway and is generally localized to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, cell membrane, and mitochondrial outer membrane.
STING is ubiquitously expressed in most tissues.
