Target Information
CD73 (Ecto-5-prime-nucleotidase, 5-prime-ribonucleotide phosphohydrolase) catalyzes the conversion of purine 5-prime mononucleotides to nucleosides at neutral pH, preferring AMP as substrate.
It forms a dimer of two identical 70 kDa subunits bound to the plasma membrane via glycosyl phosphatidylinositol linkage.
CD73 acts as a marker of lymphocyte differentiation, and its deficiency is associated with various immunodeficiency diseases.
Other forms of 5-prime nucleotidase exist in cytoplasm and lysosomes, differing in substrate affinity and cofactor requirements.
The CD73 gene is localized to chromosome 6q14–q21, and defects can lead to joint and arterial calcification or intestinal tuberculosis.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
