Target Information
Calumenin is a 315 amino acid Ca²⁺-binding member of the CREC, EF-hand protein family. It is a secreted protein localized in the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi apparatus, containing six Ca²⁺-binding EF-hand motifs. In the presence of Ca²⁺, Calumenin interacts with serum amyloid P component (SAP), potentially contributing to immunological defense and amyloidosis. It inhibits the vitamin K-dependent γ-carboxylation system and may play a role in thrombosis and wound healing through autocrine or paracrine mechanisms.
