Target Information
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by neuronal loss and senile plaques composed of aggregated amyloid-beta (Abeta) peptides. CALHM1 (Calcium Homeostasis Modulator 1) is a multipass transmembrane glycoprotein that regulates cytosolic Ca²⁺ concentration and Abeta levels. Some studies suggest CALHM1 may be associated with AD risk, while others report no correlation. CALHM1 may modulate the Ca²⁺-dependent proteolytic processing of APP through regulation of cytosolic Ca²⁺ levels.
