Target Information
Inward rectifying potassium channel activated by phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate. Participates in controlling resting membrane potential in excitable cells and contributes to action potential waveform and excitability in neuronal and muscle tissues.
These channels allow potassium to flow more readily into the cell than out, with voltage dependence regulated by extracellular potassium concentration. Inward rectification is mainly due to blockage of outward current by internal magnesium.
