Target Information
Transthyretin (TTR), commonly known as prealbumin, is a plasma protein that acts as a transporter for thyroxine and retinal-binding protein. It is primarily synthesized in the liver and secreted into plasma. TTR constitutes about 25% of CSF protein and is associated with neuritic plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and amyloid lesions in senile cerebral amyloid. Over 40 mutations in the TTR gene have been linked to amyloid deposition.
