Target Information

Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome (VHL) is a dominantly inherited familial cancer syndrome associated with various malignant and benign tumors. Germline mutations in the VHL gene cause familial inheritance of the syndrome.
The encoded protein forms a complex with elongin B, elongin C, and cullin-2, exhibiting ubiquitin ligase E3 activity. It mediates ubiquitination and degradation of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF), a transcription factor regulating oxygen-dependent gene expression.
RNA polymerase II subunit POLR2G/RPB7 is also a reported target. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been observed.
