Target Information
TEF (thyrotrophic embryonic factor), also known as KIAA1655, is a 303 amino acid nuclear transcription factor belonging to the bZIP (basic region/leucine zipper) family and PAR (proline and acidic amino acid-rich) subfamily.
TEF binds DNA as a homodimer or heterodimer and transactivates the TSH beta promoter. It is broadly expressed in adults but restricted to the developing embryonic anterior pituitary gland. TEF accumulates according to a circadian rhythm and can inhibit cell growth by downregulating cytokine receptor beta chain expression.
Its functional domains are highly homologous with other PAR-bZIP subfamily members such as albumin D box-binding protein (DABP), human hepatic leukemia factor (HLF), and chicken vitellogenin gene-binding protein (VBP).
