PA1-4185 detects the p21 protein in human samples.
PA1-4185 has been successfully used in Western blot procedures.
The PA1-4185 immunogen is a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues 139–164 of p21.
Maintain at 2–8ºC for 3 months or at -20ºC for longer periods. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Target Information

Protein p21 is a tumor suppressor protein that inhibits Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDK) and is transcriptionally activated by p53.
p21 plays a key role in cellular response to genotoxic stress and is a major transcriptional target of p53.
In the nucleus, p21 binds and inhibits CDK1 and CDK2, blocking the transition from G1 to S phase or G2 to mitosis after DNA damage, enabling DNA repair.
In the cytoplasm, p21 has anti-apoptotic activity, inhibiting caspase 3 and kinases ASK1 and JNK.
p21 exhibits dual functions in carcinogenesis, acting both as a tumor suppressor and as an oncogene depending on context.
