Target Information
Neurogenin 1 (NeuroG1) is a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor involved in determining cell type during development. It plays dual roles in cell-fate specification: promoting neurogenesis and inhibiting astrocyte differentiation. NeuroG1 acts as a transcriptional activator for neuronal genes while inhibiting astrocyte differentiation by compartmentalizing the CREB-binding protein transcription complex and suppressing STAT transcription factors essential for gliogenesis.
