Target Information
Casein kinase II (CK2) is a serine/threonine protein kinase found in all eukaryotic cells, indicating essential cellular functions. The holoenzyme is a tetramer composed of two catalytic (alpha or alpha′) and two regulatory (beta) subunits. While the alpha and alpha′ subunits are catalytically identical, regulatory proteins such as cdc2 and Hsp90 preferentially bind to the alpha subunit. CK2 phosphorylates key intracellular signaling proteins involved in tumor suppression (p53, PTEN) and tumorigenesis (myc, jun, NF-kappaB). It also influences Wnt signaling via beta-catenin phosphorylation and the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.
