Prolactin (PRL)은 젖 생산 자극, 염분 및 수분 조절, 성장, 발달, 생식에 관여하는 뇌하수체 호르몬입니다. PRL은 세포막의 PRL 수용체에 결합하여 신호 전달 경로를 시작합니다. PRL 수용체(PRLR)는 cytokine receptor 계열에 속하며 조직 및 종에 따라 크기가 약 40–100 kDa로 다양합니다. PRLR은 다음 세 가지 주요 도메인으로 구성됩니다:
- 5개의 cysteine을 포함한 prolactin 결합 부위가 있는 세포외 영역
- 단일 transmembrane 도메인
- 세포질 영역 (길이에 따라 리간드 결합 및 세포 기능 조절에 영향)
