Target Information
Tight junctions are a mode of cell-to-cell adhesion in epithelial or endothelial sheets, forming continuous seals around cells and acting as a barrier to solutes and water.
Claudin 14 is an integral membrane protein and a component of tight junction strands, binding specifically to the WW domain of Yes-associated protein.
Defects in this gene cause autosomal recessive nonsyndromic sensorineural deafness.
Several transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
