Target Information

Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is a proinflammatory cytokine expressed by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is synthesized as a 31 kDa inactive pro-form and cleaved into an active 17 kDa form via inflammasome activation and caspase-1 processing. IL-1β signals through IL-1RI and IL-1RII receptors and plays a key role in innate immune responses by inducing other proinflammatory cytokines. Elevated IL-1β levels are associated with chronic inflammatory diseases, and IL-1β neutralizing antibodies have potential therapeutic applications.
