Target Information
Alpha Tubulin forms a heterodimer with beta Tubulin, each about 55 kDa, serving as the basic building block of microtubules. These cylindrical filamentous structures are found in nearly all eukaryotic cells, providing structural support, intracellular transport, and playing a key role in mitosis.
Microtubules consist mainly of alpha and beta tubulins, while gamma tubulin is crucial for microtubule nucleation. Multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes are highly conserved across species. The alpha Tubulin gene is similar to the mouse and rat Tuba1 gene, and its expression is predominantly found in differentiated neurological cells.
