Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of chromosomal fibers in eukaryotes. Approximately 146 bp of DNA wraps around a nucleosome composed of pairs of the four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4).
Chromatin fibers are further compacted through interactions with linker histone H1.
The H3 gene is intronless, lacks polyA tails, and is located in a histone cluster on chromosome 1. This record represents the telomeric copy of one of the duplicated histone genes.
