Target Information

DISC1 (Disrupted in Schizophrenia 1) is a multifunctional protein interacting with centrosomal and cytoskeletal components. It plays key roles in neuronal migration, neurite architecture, and intracellular transport. DISC1 is expressed in regions such as the hippocampus, cerebral cortex, cerebellum, and hypothalamus.
Mutations or translocations in the DISC1 gene are linked to schizophrenia. The protein contains both globular N-terminal and helical C-terminal domains, enabling interactions with proteins like MIPT3, MAP1A, NUDEL, alpha-actinin 2, beta 4-spectrin, ATF-4, and ATF-5.
Reduced DISC1 expression can lead to abnormal neuronal integration and dendritic development, suggesting its importance in synapse formation and neuronal morphology.
