Target Information
Plexins are a family of large transmembrane receptors for multiple classes of semaphorins in vertebrates. They are widely expressed, with extracellular domains homologous to scatter factor receptors and semaphorin domains. Plexins may function as semaphorin receptors alone or in combination with neuropilins.
Subfamilies include plexin-A, -B, -C, and -D. Drosophila plexin-A acts as a receptor for class I semaphorins, controlling motor and axon guidance, while Plexin-A3 mediates cell-repelling cues. Plexins B and C serve as receptors for Sema 4 and Sema 7, respectively.
