Target Information

Dynamin is a GTPase required for endocytosis of clathrin-coated vesicles from the membrane. Its role in endocytosis was first identified in Drosophila melanogaster.
Three isoforms exist in mammals:

  • Dynamin 1: Expressed in neurons
  • Dynamin 2: Ubiquitously expressed
  • Dynamin 3: Expressed primarily in testes

Each isoform has multiple splice variants, suggesting distinct intracellular functions.
Common structural domains include:

  • N-terminal GTPase domain
  • Central pleckstrin homology domain
  • C-terminal proline-rich region with SH3 domains

Dynamin interacts with AP2 adaptor protein complex and amphiphysin, targeting clathrin-coated pits.
