Target Information
Serum response factor (SRF) is a transcription factor that binds the serum response element (SRE), mediating the transient response of many cellular genes to growth stimulation. SRF regulates muscle gene expression in response to growth factors and recruits accessory myogenic factors to activate these genes. It is essential for vertebrate mesoderm formation and cardiovascular system development. Myocardin, in association with SRF, activates cardiac muscle promoters, while myocardin-related transcription factors A and B (MRTF-A and MRTF-B) enhance SRF transcriptional activity. MRTF-B plays a key role in skeletal myogenic differentiation.
