Target Information

Serotonin plays a major role in cardiovascular function and gastrointestinal motility, acting through G protein-coupled 5-HT receptors (SR receptors).
The SR-2 receptor family includes SR-2A, SR-2B, and SR-2C subtypes, which activate phospholipase C and release intracellular calcium in response to serotonin.

• SR-2A: Involved in tracheal smooth muscle contraction, bronchoconstriction, and aldosterone production; implicated in depression and schizophrenia.
• SR-2B: Expressed in cardiovascular tissues, gut, and brain; important in cardiac disorder pathology.
• SR-2C: Mediates effects of atypical antipsychotic drugs.
