Product Specific Information

  • For immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  • Formalin-fixed tissues require heating in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

CD56 (NCAM, neural cell adhesion molecule) is a transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin family that functions as an adhesive molecule and is widely expressed in the nervous system in isoforms ranging from 120–180 kDa.
It is found on T cells and NK cells, involved in cell migration, axonal growth, pathfinding, and synaptic plasticity. Polysialic modification reduces CD56-mediated adhesion.
CD56 mediates homophilic and heterophilic interactions via extracellular binding to matrix components such as laminin and integrins.
It is expressed on neuroectodermal-derived cell lines, tissues, and neoplasms including retinoblastoma, medulloblastoma, astrocytomas, and neuroblastoma.
CD56 serves as a sensitive neuroendocrine marker for neuroendocrine and ovarian granulosa cell tumors.
Diseases associated with CD56 dysfunction include rabies and blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasms.
