Target Information

Voltage-gated K⁺ channels in the plasma membrane control the repolarization and frequency of action potentials in neurons, muscles, and other excitable cells.
The KV gene family encodes more than 30 proteins that form K⁺ channel subunits, varying in gating, permeation properties, and expression patterns.
Functional KV channels assemble as tetramers of pore-forming alpha subunits (KV1–KV4) and accessory KV-subunits that modify their gating properties.
KV beta.3 regulates the activity of the pore-forming alpha subunit and alters Kv1.5 functional properties.
KV beta.3 localizes to the cytoplasm and is expressed mainly in the brain, with the highest levels in the cerebellum and lowest in the frontal and temporal lobes.
No KV beta.3 expression is detected in the heart, spinal cord, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, placenta, or skeletal muscle.
