Target Information
Histone methyltransferase that specifically monomethylates Lys-4 of histone H3.
H3 Lys-4 methylation acts as a tag for epigenetic transcriptional activation.
SETD7 plays a central role in activating genes such as collagenase and insulin by being recruited to promoters through IPF1/PDX-1.
It also methylates non-histone proteins including p53/TP53 and TAF10, enhancing transcriptional activity and protein stability.
Monomethylation of Lys-189 of TAF10 increases its affinity for RNA polymerase II, while methylation of Lys-372 of p53 stabilizes and activates p53-mediated transcription.
