HSPB1 (heat shock protein beta-1 or HSP27) is a small heat shock protein functioning as a molecular chaperone that maintains denatured proteins in a folding-competent state. It contributes to stress resistance and actin organization.
HSP27 regulates biological processes including phosphorylation and axonal transport of neurofilament proteins.
Mutations in the HSPB1 gene are associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2F and distal hereditary motor neuronopathy type 2B.
