Target Information

The SUV39H1 gene encodes a conserved protein with an N-terminal chromodomain and a C-terminal SET domain. This histone methyltransferase trimethylates lysine 9 of histone H3, leading to transcriptional gene silencing. Loss of function can disrupt heterochromatin formation and cause chromosome instability. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing.
