Target Information

Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of chromatin in eukaryotes. Two molecules each of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4 form an octamer around which approximately 146 bp of DNA is wrapped, forming nucleosomes. The linker histone H1 binds to linker DNA between nucleosomes, aiding in chromatin compaction. The H2A.Z gene encodes a member of the histone H2A family and produces two transcripts via conserved termination motifs.
