Angiopoietin-like protein 4 (ANGPTL4) is a secreted protein expressed in adipose tissue, liver, and placenta. It plays diverse roles in adipogenesis, angiogenesis, and carcinogenesis. Its expression is regulated by nutritional and hormonal factors and induces pro-angiogenic responses independent of VEGF. ANGPTL4 is expressed in hypoxic tissues and various cancers, including liposarcoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, and renal cell carcinoma.
