Target Information
Prohibitin is encoded by an evolutionarily conserved gene ubiquitously expressed in various tissues. It acts as a negative regulator of cell proliferation and may function as a tumor suppressor. Mutations in PHB have been associated with sporadic breast cancer. Two transcripts are expressed, differing in the length of their 3' untranslated region; the longer transcript is more abundant in proliferating tissues, suggesting a regulatory role as a trans-acting RNA.
