Target Information
Breast tumors initially depend on estrogens for growth and progression and can be inhibited by anti-estrogens such as tamoxifen. However, some breast cancers become anti-estrogen resistant. The BCAR3 gene (Breast Cancer Anti-Estrogen Resistance 3) encodes a signaling component that mediates estrogen-independent proliferation in human breast cancer cells. The protein includes a putative SH2 domain, characteristic of cellular tyrosine kinase signaling molecules, and shows partial homology to the CDC48 cell division cycle protein.
